Deltona housing staff outlines homeowner assistance and referral options

Gregory Jones, who works in the City of Deltona housing department, described assistance available to homeowners, especially elderly residents, and explained referral processes for low-income housing needs.
Jones said the housing position helps residents secure repairs such as new roofs, septic-system replacement and interior remodeling to accommodate mobility needs such as handicap-accessible bathrooms. "A lot of the individuals who come who live in Deltona are elderly homeowners, and we can help them by putting new roofs on their homes or, allowing them to replace their septic systems or do some remodeling inside if they need like handicap bathroom," Jones said. Jones added that low-income housing placements usually require referrals to Volusia County, Daytona or other nearby agencies and that his role is to connect residents to the proper resources.
He said the city is invested in helping homeowners stay in place but did not specify funding sources, eligibility criteria, or the number of households assisted. Jones said he has been in the position about two years.
