Wyoming Valley West superintendent and board praise staff, students after Junior Achievement event

Superintendent Tosh praised Wyoming Valley West School District staff and students on Wednesday for their roles in a regional Junior Achievement college-and-career readiness event and during district programs showcasing STEM and student journalism.

Tosh told the board that staff and volunteers organized a strong program at Mohegan Sun, saying the district “had the privilege” of participating and singled out several local contributors. He specifically named Tara Carey, the high school principal, and Katie Finnegan, a high-school teacher who presented at the event, and thanked Rob Mericle and volunteers associated with Junior Achievement for sponsoring and supporting the program.

The recognition continued during board remarks. Board member McGinley (identified in the meeting as a board speaker) described receiving a copy of a middle-school student newspaper (Volume 2) and commended participating students and the teacher advisors. McGinley said the newspaper demonstrates students’ work on writing and school reporting. Other board members praised the high school’s STEM lab and a new esports room, noting teachers and students’ engagement in engineering, computer drafting and related coursework.

Why it matters: Board members framed the event as part of ongoing college-and-career readiness work, connecting classroom activities to local employer and postsecondary outreach.
