Summary
A resident urged council to address speeding and repeated crashes on a one‑mile stretch of Roberts Drive, detailing multiple incidents in public comment.
At the start of the April 1 meeting, resident Bill Griffith urged the Sandy Springs City Council to address safety on a roughly one‑mile stretch of Roberts Drive that he said is part of a sidepath plan and is "a very dangerous stretch of road." Griffith told the council he had described 13 accidents earlier and then recounted additional crashes, saying "I'm currently aware" of at least 20 incidents and describing several collisions that left vehicles off the roadway, damaged signs, mailboxes and trees.
Griffith described multiple incidents he attributed to speeding and said one crash destroyed a telephone pole and left tire marks 65 feet long; on another occasion he said a vehicle went off the road and hit a large tree. He told the council he would send photos of the damage.
The council did not take action during the meeting on Roberts Drive; the remarks came during the public comment period. Mayor Rusty Paul closed public comment after the two scheduled speakers and the council proceeded to the agenda.
