The Fort Smith School District Board of Education announced at the close of its meeting that it had received Superintendent Dr. Morawski’s resignation on Jan. 17, effective June 30.
Board members said they have begun work with executive search firm McPherson & Jacobson. The board president said the district received a final contract form from the firm the afternoon of the meeting and that the contract would be forwarded to board counsel for final review; board staff expect to execute the agreement by the end of the week and begin developing a candidate profile and timeline.
The board president said the district hopes to provide a substantive update on the search by the next regular meeting, and that McPherson & Jacobson will work with the board to develop a profile and timeline. The board also said it will add related agenda items at an upcoming meeting to begin the formal search and transition process.
No additional details about the terms of Morawski’s resignation were disclosed at the meeting. The board did not take public action on hiring an interim superintendent during the session; further actions on the search and transition will be reported in future board agendas and minutes.
