Early Learning committee schedules fall off‑campus tour and up to two interim committee days

The chair of the Human Services, Youth, & Early Learning interim planning work session said the committee is planning an off‑campus visit this fall and up to two interim committee hearing days to follow.

The proposed off‑campus visit would include Green Hill and Harbor Heights, and committee leaders said they are aiming to schedule the trip in September if logistical approvals come through. "We have on the agenda basically, 3 potential items or dates that after session we can gather, and that's, there could be 1 off campus activity," the chair said. The committee signaled one committee day would occur during the formal committee day slot and a second would be scheduled as needed.

Representative Taylor asked whether Mission Creek had been considered as a stop; the chair said Mission Creek "might still be operational, as an adult facility" and that the facility would require separate consideration. Several members urged committee members to use the interim to gather field observations and submit them before the committee days so staff can shape the hearing agenda.

The chair asked members to share items they want on the interim agenda and said staff will work on approvals and scheduling. "Anything that you can do in the field to, kind of dig into something that's of interest, and give me that feedback would also be very helpful," the chair said.

Next steps: leaders said staff will try to finalize approval for the fall visit and circulate dates. Committee members also discussed potential additional day(s) for deeper briefings and hearings based on issues discovered during field visits and stakeholder conversations.
