Papillion city staff told the City Council on April 1 that the city has been selected to receive $1,125,000 from the Civic and Community Center Financing Fund to support renovations at Papio Bay. The award is a state grant administered through the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.
City staff said the grant will help close a financing gap the city is facing after losing a local source of sales tax revenue. The administrator acknowledged Tracy Grama and Robin Lance for submitting the grant application and described the award as competitive; staff noted the city’s previous receipt of a similar grant in 2018 for $750,000 for another community center project.
No council vote was required at Tuesday’s meeting for acceptance; staff presented the award as an informational item during the administrator’s report and indicated further reporting and project steps will follow as the city incorporates the funds into renovation planning.
