Parks and Rec renames scholarship for Eva Ybarra; application deadline set for May 15

Jackie Benoit of the Recreation Department told the Livingston City Council that the Parks, Recreation and Arts Commission’s scholarship has been renamed the Eva Ybarra Memorial Scholarship to honor a late commissioner. The $500 scholarship was originally seeded by Eva Ybarra in 2019.
Benoit said the department will promote the scholarship on the city website and through social media to increase student applications; the deadline for submission at City Hall is May 15. Benoit said the department has had low application numbers and encouraged the public to share information about the opportunity.
The council acknowledged the announcement and asked staff to continue outreach to high-school students who could use the funds for school expenses.
