The Human Services Committee approved a $50,000 supplemental appropriation of grant funds awarded through the National Children’s Alliance to buy laptops and tablets for use by the Orange County Child Advocacy Center (CAC).
Lacey Trimble, Commissioner of Social Services, told the committee the equipment purchase includes laptops and iPads with service plans so CAC staff can document interviews in real time and hold meetings when staff cannot return to the office. Trimble explicitly clarified that the equipment will not be left with families: "we're not leaving any equipment with any families. They will benefit from having the equipment and having the service brought to them as needed. We can bring a laptop to their house and have a worker sit with them and do a meeting with them so that if they don't have transportation, we can facilitate that. But the equipment will be inventoried and stay with the county."
There were no recorded opposing votes on the meeting record; the appropriation was approved by voice vote.
The funds will purchase equipment and high-fidelity service plans to support in-home interviewing, remote meetings and improved documentation for CAC staff.
