Beaver County commissioners on a snowy April morning unanimously approved Resolution 2025-03, designating April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Beaver County.
The resolution was presented by representatives of the Beaver County Children’s Justice Center (CJC) and Friends board, who described outreach and services the CJC provides and asked the county to formally recognize the month. Theresa (no last name given) and other CJC volunteers described outreach activities, a pinwheel awareness campaign, and asked the county to help publicize CJC services and to display pinwheels at county buildings in April.
The resolution text read to the board summarizes services the CJC has provided since 2015, including figures the resolution itself cites: services to 528 primary victims, services to 593 secondary victims, information and resources provided to more than 8,000 community members, 301 forensic interviews, 162 medical exams provided free of charge, 57 traumatic stress screenings and referrals, and a statement that 1 in 5 screened had moderate to high suicide risk. The resolution “reaffirms our commitment” to protecting children and urges citizens to support prevention efforts.
Commissioners thanked CJC staff and volunteers for their work and asked the presenters to forward social-media posts and materials the county can share. Commissioner Pearson asked the group to let the county know if there are additional steps the commission should take to get information into schools and other community venues.
A motion to adopt Resolution 2025-03 carried. The minutes record the vote as Commissioner Pearson: aye; Commissioner Yarden: aye; Commissioner Ollington: aye.
The formal proclamation now appears in county records as Resolution 2025-03; county staff said they will distribute information about the CJC’s April events and encouraged presenters to tag the county on social posts so officials can amplify outreach.
