The Public Works and Highway Committee awarded the annual tree-planting contract to Dan Larson Landscaping for an amount not to exceed $29,250. The award covers the village’s year-2 work under a five-year comprehensive tree plan and fills roughly 90 vacant planting sites out of an estimated 306 total vacant sites identified in the plan.
Staff said the contract draws from an approved tree list in the comprehensive plan to promote species diversity and help avoid past problems such as the ash losses. The contract requires trees be sourced within about 100 miles of the village; staff noted one variety (hackberry) would be sourced from Illinois. Committee members asked about warranty terms; staff said the contract requires the contractor to return at one year to replace any trees that have died.
Dan Larson has worked with the village previously; staff said this will be the third contract period with the firm and that the contractor replaced some trees that died last summer without being asked. The motion to award the contract passed by voice vote and the transcript records the result as unanimous.
