Suwannee County commissioners adopt road‑naming and unclaimed‑remains ordinances, opt out of Live Local tax incentive; several consent and grant items approved

Suwannee County commissioners on April 1, 2025 voted unanimously on several measures touching emergency response, county recordkeeping and tax policy, and approved a slate of consent and business items.

The board adopted an ordinance designed to stop the practice of adding supplemental or “brown‑sign” names to existing county roads, a measure county attorneys said is intended to reduce confusion for emergency responders. County Attorney Adam Morrison told the board he drafted the ordinance per earlier direction to make it “as difficult as possible” to add nonstandard road names and that the ordinance directs county staff not to accept agenda requests to change or supplement county road names. The county voted 5‑0 to adopt the ordinance; the board will transmit the ordinance to the Florida Secretary of State as required for codified ordinances.

The board also adopted an ordinance codifying procedures for disposition of unclaimed human remains under Florida law.
