Emergency management staff described a plan to roll out CrisisTrack for DPWs and FEMA reporting, to support hazard mitigation and disaster declarations; continuity-of-operations training and a BOCES EMS/fire career day were also announced; a request to create-and-fill was tabled for further work.
Allegany County emergency management staff told the legislature they are implementing a CrisisTrack reporting system to consolidate local damage reports and convert them into FEMA dollars for disaster declarations and hazard-mitigation planning.
“CrisisTrack is a reporting system for the departments of public works and for FEMA to report any damages up during a storm,” said Bonnie (surname not specified), who presented the department’s report. She described the system as a single place to collect reports that will translate local damage into FEMA-eligible amounts and allow the county to send reports to the state.
Bonnie said the county will train DPW staff beginning in late spring, and that reports collected through CrisisTrack can be used both during an active disaster and to identify chronic problem areas for future hazard-mitigation projects. “This will also help for the hazard mitigation because we can go back in and look where they've had chronic problems that we can put in the hazard the next hazard mitigation plan,” Bonnie said.
Emergency management also announced continuity-of-operations (COOP) training for county departments and a tiered offering for towns and villages. Bonnie urged department heads and legislators to attend a two-day COOP session and said a town-and-village COOP (tier 3) session is targeted for April 23.
The department said it is in talks with BOCES to host an EMS/fire career day at the county building to expose students to volunteer and career opportunities in emergency services.
Committee members were asked to consider a request to create and fill a position in emergency management; the committee moved to table that request so staff could refine the proposal and bring it back at a later meeting. The motion to table carried on a voice vote.
