The City of Shelton proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month during the April 1 council meeting and called on residents, agencies and businesses to increase participation in prevention and family-support activities.
City staff read the proclamation noting partnerships among agencies, schools, faith groups and health providers to strengthen families. Roger Jones of Best Family Education Support Services thanked the council for the proclamation and asked leaders to participate in a pinwheel campaign; he said the agency has planted more than 1,000 pinwheels across a three-county service area and offered pinwheels and informational flyers to the city.
Jones cited state reporting that the Washington child-abuse rate is 35 victims per 1,000 children (as presented in his remarks) and urged residents to be informed, support families, volunteer and advocate for policies that prioritize children’s safety.
