Allegany County seeks members for sesquicentennial committee; attorney asked to draft bylaws

At the March 19 meeting of the Allegany County Committee of the Whole, legislators discussed staffing and next steps for the county's semi‑sesquicentennial (250th) committee and asked the county attorney's office to help prepare bylaws to support the committee's first meeting.

The committee chair said a resolution establishing the sesquicentennial committee was circulated to members and that several committee seats remain unfilled. "Bev was kind enough to just drop on your desk a copy of the resolution, creating the committee, that includes in the resolution the makeup of the committee," the chair said. The chair asked legislators to recommend qualified residents from their districts to fill the remaining positions.

The chair also acknowledged they had not yet provided draft bylaws to the county attorney and requested that the county attorney's office prepare bylaws for the new committee so the group can begin meeting with an organizational structure in place. A staff member in the county attorney's office said she would first check whether bylaws are required and then proceed as directed.

No formal vote was recorded on the committee membership or bylaws request during the meeting. Legislators present agreed informally to identify potential members from their districts and to provide direction to the county attorney's office to draft bylaws if the office determines they are needed. The discussion included a promise by the chair to share additional ideas with the committee once it convenes.
