Neighbor asks county to reconsider outdoor gun range at EVOC site near schools

Pulver said the proposed outdoor range sits "right in my backyard" and asked the board to consider converting any proposed outdoor range to an indoor facility. He said his grandchildren play nearby and that firing could trigger school lockdowns at Ithaca Gin Elementary and two other nearby schools, creating congestion and safety concerns. "We don't need people to sit around and say how sorry we are that that bullet misfired," Pulver said, and he requested a formal county policy to prevent outdoor gun ranges within a three-mile radius of schools, parks and residential subdivisions.
Pulver said he has discussed the issue informally with the sheriff and asked the board to investigate costs and feasibility for an indoor range. The comment was made during public comment; no county staff responded at the time and no formal board action was taken.
