The Hubbardston Planning Board agreed to add the Open Space Committee’s final draft open-space plan to a future meeting agenda for an on-record presentation and discussed regional representation and alternate appointments to the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission (MRPC).
Chair Chris told the board Mark from the Open Space Committee would like to present the final draft and suggested doing so at either an April meeting or the first meeting in May. Chris characterized the volunteer-led open-space plan as high quality and said protected lands account for a large share of the town’s land area; he stated a range of “42–47 percent” of the town is protected land, depending on the data source.
Board members also discussed regional participation and the need for a consistently attending alternate to MRPC and other regional meetings where funding opportunities and technical assistance are announced. The board noted the alternate seat is appointed by the select board and suggested that interested community members who are not planning-board members could serve as alternates and report back on opportunities.
No formal vote was taken on appointments tonight. The board asked staff to coordinate with Mark to schedule the Open Space Committee presentation at an upcoming meeting.
