Commission approves supplemental borings and revised wetland delineation for Bennington Street/Fredericks Park project

The Revere Conservation Commission continued and then approved supplemental borings and minor revisions to the wetland delineation for the Resilient Bennington Street and Fredericks Park project (DEP file 610838) after consultants and commissioners walked the site and confirmed boundaries.

John Chu emailed the commission describing a site walk on March 24 that included VHB staff and commission members and concluded the drawings titled Resilient Bennington Street and Fredericks Park (C1 and C2, dated 02/14/2025) “represent the boundaries of the resource areas.” Commissioner Bernardo and VHB staff confirmed the site walk and described two small changes to the wetland lines: one near the northeast corner adjacent to apartments where gravel ponding was excluded, and one on the southeast corner of a parking lot where the line was pulled away from the parking edge.

Taylor Donovan, an environmental scientist with VHB, said the team also obtained a designation letter allowing a reduced riverfront area for Sales Creek under the Wetlands Protection Act; she said the reduction was documented in a map and provided to city staff. A representative of Friends of Veil Isle Marsh, Cindy Baxter, asked whether the presentation slides and corrected delineation would be made publicly available; staff responded the presentation is posted on the city website and the corrected delineation could be provided.

Commissioners who attended the site visit reported small plan corrections were reflected in the revised submission. After hearing no opposition, the commission closed the hearing and voted to approve the supplemental borings and revised delineation.

The approval allows the project team to move forward with the limited borings in the park footprint and proceed with plans that reflect the corrected boundaries. The commission recorded the site visit and consultant memorandum as the basis for the approval.
