Van Eyre, superintendent of Hillsborough County Public Schools, said the district is recognizing April as Month of the Military Child and is home to more than 4,000 military-connected students.
In brief remarks, Van Eyre noted that 21 schools in the district have earned Purple Star designation for offering resources to military families and supporting students through transitions. He asked residents to observe a districtwide “Purple Up” day on April 11 by wearing purple to show support.
“April is month of the military child, and our school district is proud to be home to more than 4,000 military students,” Van Eyre said. “These brave students face the challenges of frequent moves, leaving behind friends, and adjusting to new schools. Their resilience and strength deserve our recognition and appreciation.”
Van Eyre added, “We have 21 Purple Star Schools. These schools have earned that prestigious distinction by supporting the unique needs of military families and providing resources for military connected students when transitioning to a new school environment.”
He closed by thanking military families for entrusting the district with their children’s education and reiterated the April 11 Purple Up day: “I encourage everyone to purple up and wear your best purple clothing on April 11 in honor of our military students.”
The remarks were recognition-focused and did not include proposals for policy changes or formal board action.
