Iredell County approves consent agenda, resumes fairgrounds farmers market design; commissioners discuss new park and emergency communications

The Iredell County Board of Commissioners approved a package of administrative items by consent and voted to resume design work on an outdoor farmers market at the county fairgrounds.
County staff said the items on the consent agenda were reviewed at the board’s pre-agenda meeting and included multiple proclamations, budget amendments, personnel classification updates and program approvals. Commissioner Brown moved to approve the pre-agenda consent items; the motion was adopted by voice vote.
Key items approved by consent included: a budget amendment (No. 35) directing $661.25 from the general fund to repay the emergency telephone system fund for ineligible expenses identified in the final PSAP report for fiscal year 2024; a second budget amendment (No. 36) to appropriate $19,137 for Iredell County’s cost share of algae treatment in Lake Norman; the Iredell County Public Library strategic plan for fiscal years 2026–2030; proclamations establishing Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and National 9-1-1 Education Month; a one-year lease with two renewal options for the 901 West Memorial Highway solid waste convenience center site (5% increase per renewal); and the addition of two classification titles to the county schedule (Tax Real Property Appraiser Level 3 and Advanced EMT, full-time EMS).
The board also approved a request from staff to proclaim April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Iredell County.
Separately, the board voted to restart the paused outdoor farmers market project at the fairgrounds and move it back into the design phase. Commissioner Hough made the motion to resume design and it carried on a voice vote.
Commissioners used the meeting’s general-comment and commissioner-update segments to praise the newly opened Weathers Creek / Sertoma Club baseball and recreation complex, noting heavy weekend use and some parking congestion. County staff reported there are roughly 500 parking spaces available at the park but said some users were parking closer to amenities and not utilizing overflow lots. Commissioners also discussed emergency communications (ECOM): a meeting was scheduled for Friday at 11:30 a.m. to review an equipment list submitted by stakeholders and staff said no equipment has yet been ordered while staff continue to explore grant funding.
The board confirmed it met in closed session earlier in the day under North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a)(5) to discuss property acquisition.
