Jackson County jail houses 28 inmates; Scott County transfers generated $61,380 FY revenue to date

Andrew Long, Jackson County general administrator, updated the board on jail population and revenue on April 1. The facility was housing 28 inmates at the time of the report: eight Jackson County inmates and 20 housed for Scott County. The population included 25 males and three females.
Long said March’s high was 31 inmates and the monthly average was 22.9. He reported March revenue from Scott County was $23,100 and that the running fiscal-year total from Scott County housing agreements was $61,380.
Long described operational impacts: some Scott County transfers have tied up a full housing pod, and the facility has adjusted staffing and meal service schedules to meet demand. He also reported routine maintenance and warranty issues with jail equipment, including an industrial dryer and a thermostat in the control room; staff will file warranty claims and pursue vendor repairs as needed.
Long said other counties had limited interest in long-term transfers; Jones County could provide short-term housing if it completes renovations. The county has an annual inspection scheduled next week, and Long said staff are preparing for that review.
