The City Council received and accepted the Citizens Advisory Review Committee's semiannual review of Phelps County Development Corporation use of local-option municipal sales tax funds for Jan. 1'Dec. 31, 2024.
Zachary, a member of the Citizens Advisory Review Committee, told the council the committee met Feb. 12 and praised staff work. "They do a great job," he said, adding that Keith and staff are "supporting and putting forth the community for growth."
Council members asked a few follow-up questions about specific items in the report, including the committee's note about a solar fund and the Northern Meadows subdivision. Committee members said the solar project's status depends on federal funding decisions; "we think we'll know more on April 20," one committee speaker said, and an engineering firm has discussed selling the project to a private firm. On Northern Meadows, committee members said model-home photos are posted online for a similar development in McCook and reported that five properties in the subdivision have been sold and additional lots are under construction.
A council member moved to accept the committee's report; another member seconded the motion, and the council voted to approve the acceptance. Several council members voiced their approval during the roll call.
The acceptance is procedural: the report documents the committee's review and the committee's status updates rather than directing new city action. The report will remain part of the council's public record and may inform future budget or development discussions.
