Supervisors set budget meeting schedule and convene closed session for personnel and contract negotiations

County staff said departments and outside agencies had requested times to appear, and supervisors agreed to start contacting those entities and to hold a budget meeting scheduled for the next Thursday to begin hearings. Supervisors emphasized timely progress so the county can meet its budget calendar.
Later in the meeting the board unanimously voted to convene an enclosed (closed) meeting under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. The chair cited Virginia Code Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) for discussion of personnel matters and Section 2.2-3711(A)(29) for discussion of the award of a public contract and the bargaining strategy where public discussion could adversely affect negotiating position. The chair named the county administrator and assistant county administrator as necessary staff to attend.
After the closed meeting, the board returned to public session and conducted a roll-call certification that only topics lawfully exempted under the Virginia FOIA had been discussed. The roll-call record in open session was read as: Williams — Aye; Long — Aye; Bridal — Aye; Taney — Aye; Fisher — absent.
