Board signs on to regional jail MAT grant application; county match not required this cycle

The board unanimously agreed to sign onto a cooperative renewal application for a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program administered through the Northern Neck Regional Jail and funded by the Virginia Opioid Abatement (VAOAA) cooperative partnership.
County staff said the program’s fiscal-year 2026 request totals $338,762.90; after partner matches from Gloucester and the Northern Neck Regional Jail, the VAOAA request to the state is $316,369.90. County staff confirmed Northumberland County is not providing a monetary match for this grant cycle and asked the board to sign the application by the requested April 1 deadline. Supervisors approved signing on.
Staff noted that in future cycles the county could choose to provide match funds from opioid-restricted accounts (where allowable) rather than general fund dollars, but that is a decision for a later date.
