Board to revisit extension office HVAC bids after clarifying refrigerant specifications

The Northumberland County Board of Supervisors reviewed five bids for a replacement HVAC unit for the extension office at its March 27 meeting and directed staff to confirm refrigerant specifications before awarding a contract.
County staff member Miss Tadlock said the board had used cooperative procurement to seek estimates, and vendors provided quotes for Goodman, Bosch and Concord units. Tadlock said the existing system is old and some replacement parts are no longer available for older refrigerants.
Several supervisors discussed refrigerant options and longevity, with one noting that newer R454B refrigerant is being adopted and that R410A (and earlier refrigerants) are being phased out, which could make parts and service difficult in the future. The board asked staff to confirm that all bidders are offering equipment compatible with R454B and to bring the revised bid package back for a decision at the next board meeting.
No contract was awarded at the meeting. Supervisors agreed there was not an immediate need to decide and that staff should confirm technical details and return with any updated pricing before a final vote.
