The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission voted unanimously April 1 to recommend that the Board of Supervisors rezone 35.6 acres owned by John Geyer along State Road 686 (Markham Road) in the Banister Election District from a split A-1 Agricultural and R-1 Residential Suburban Subdivision classification to a single A-1 Agricultural classification. The change is intended to allow the property to be considered for a conservation easement.
Planning staff summarized the application as Case R-25-010 and noted that, if rezoned to A-1, “all uses listed under section 35-178 are permitted,” language reflected in the staff packet presented to commissioners. Monica Young, identified in the record as a project manager with the firm representing the petition, was present to answer questions but offered no additional information at the public hearing.
No members of the public signed up to comment on the rezoning. After the public hearing closed, Commissioner Miss Henderson moved that the commission recommend approval to the Board of Supervisors; Mrs. Meese seconded the motion. The motion carried 6 yes, 0 no.
The planning commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final action. The staff summary enclosed with the petition is the source for the zoning provisions referenced at the hearing.
