SPLOST 6 collections begin April 1; county lists projects, expected transportation investments

Henry County officials told the Board of Commissioners on April 1 that SPLOST 6 collections began April 1, 2025 and that the continuing 1% sales tax will fund transportation and capital projects outlined in the county’s SPLOST program.
Rocky (staff) presented a video and a slide summary describing recent SPLOST 5 completions and the portfolio planned under SPLOST 6. Staff said SPLOST 5 had funded 53 resurfacing road projects equal to about 22 miles of resurfacing, with approximately $10.5 million invested; ongoing projects include the McDonough Parkway widening and the Flippin Road extension. SPLOST-funded transportation projects in planning or under design include the McDonough Parkway extension, Rock Quarry Road (out to bid), Mill Road widening (to go to bid later in the spring), and right-of-way acquisition for Jonesboro Road, Bill Gardner Parkway, Fairview Road and State Route 81, staff reported.
Staff stated the county will issue design requests for nine major road widenings, six intersection improvements and one new road totaling about 20 miles and said two resurfacing contracts this spring will cover approximately 185 roads and 83 miles at an estimated investment of $60 million. The presentation asserted SPLOST 6 collections will allow the county to complete nearly $277 million in necessary transportation improvements.
Commissioners thanked staff and urged that the SPLOST project video be posted on the county website and social media to increase public understanding of how the tax funds projects.
