Gadsden council approves appointments, Whataburger extension and facility contracts

Council members adopted a resolution appointing Gil Lizzville to the Turrentine Avenue Architectural Review Board for a term expiring May 20, 2027. The council approved an amended economic development agreement with MWB Restaurants LLC to extend the opening date for a Whataburger at 563 East Meighan Boulevard from 12 months to 24 months after execution of the original agreement.
Under new business the council approved two entertainment agreements to continue the summer concert series as a “tribute concert series.” The agreement with 7 Bridges Band (an Eagles tribute) was scheduled for May, and an agreement with Elite Talent Group LLC for “Purple Madness” (a Prince cover band) was scheduled for June. Councilman Wilson introduced the entertainment agreements and the council approved immediate consideration and adoption.
The council also approved two engineering-related resolutions introduced by Councilman Robinson: a professional-services agreement with Thomas Macarath (for asphalt crew facility interior and exterior plans) budgeted at $19,750, and a construction contract with Bob Smith's Construction for exterior renovations and construction of the asphalt crew facility budgeted at $389,000. Robinson described the work as providing storage, office space and renovations for city equipment and staff.
