Village to trial alternative sales route for obsolete fire vehicles after poor auction returns

The staff presentation said two vehicles are being declared obsolete and the village has had “very little to no success” with the auction provider; in many cases staff said the village might recover more value by scrapping the units. Staff identified Signal Fire Fire Apparatus as a potential buyer/reseller and attached the vendor’s list prices in the meeting packet.
Robbie Lano, who has taken over fleet services, will coordinate the trial. “If these two go well and we get much more money than we’ve been getting in the past, we’ll move forward with the rest of the business,” a staff speaker said. Staff described the first two vehicles as a test to evaluate whether resale lists from Signal Fire produce better net revenue than the current auction route.
Trustees and staff said they have been meeting regularly on fleet issues and will evaluate the results before authorizing additional dispositions. The presentation did not include specific dollar amounts for the two vehicles; staff said they will report back with results.
There was no vote to authorize a sale at this meeting; staff described the plan as a trial and asked the board to allow staff to proceed with evaluating the first two vehicles.
