HB 1526 (Representative Painter) narrowed earlier language to focus on recruiting and retention and set reporting thresholds for partnership agreements: agreements valued between $10,000 and $50,000 must be reported to the Arkansas Legislative Council (ALC); agreements over $50,000 require review and approval by ALC before execution. Committee discussion clarified that “review” in this context includes approval for contracts over $50,000.
HB 1638 (Representative Painter) updates multiple Arkansas statutes to explicitly include the United States Space Force in definitions of U.S. Armed Forces and uniformed services so Space Force members and veterans are eligible for the same state programs and benefits as other branches. Presenters said the change does not create new benefits but aligns state law with federal definitions and could help state competitiveness for future Space Force units.
