Liberty County introduces new fire marshal and emergency management coordinator

Liberty County Commissioners Court introduced two new hires Wednesday: Nathan Green as fire marshal and AJ Johnson as the county’s emergency management coordinator.

Nathan Green addressed the court after his introduction and said he brings more than 40 years of public-service experience. “I’ve been given the opportunity to be a fire marshal for Liberty County. I look forward to this as a chance to use my previous 40 plus years in some public service,” Green said.

AJ Johnson also thanked the court and pledged cooperation with local partners. “I think it’s an honor to serve as the next emergency manager for this county,” Johnson said, adding he looks forward to working with local businesses, churches, organizations and the sheriff’s office.

Why it matters: The two positions oversee emergency response and fire-safety activities across Liberty County’s large geographic area. Commissioners noted the county’s travel times between north and south make coordinated emergency planning important.
