Commissioners appoint county employee to lead cybersecurity grant administration

Maverick County Commissioners Court on Friday, Jan. 17, unanimously approved appointing Angela Mando Gonzalez, an employee in the county’s informational department, as program director for the State and Local Cybersecurity Program award #5222701.

County officials said auditors requested a single program director to manage reporting and coordination for the cybersecurity grant. Staff told the court that assigning a county employee to that role would streamline submissions to the state and reduce duplicative work for other staff handling grant administration.

During the discussion, county staff confirmed that the informational technology and grants departments helped secure the cybersecurity grant and will coordinate with the appointed program director for the grant’s reporting obligations. The court recorded a motion to appoint Gonzalez; the motion was made by Commissioner Ramos and recorded as seconded (see provenance). The court voted unanimously to approve the appointment. The meeting then moved to other agenda items and into executive session for additional matters.

The appointment transfers formal reporting responsibility for the listed cybersecurity award to a county employee rather than leaving it with outside or interim staff, a step county staff described as standard practice for the grant’s administration.
