Commissioners plan First Friday event and seek sponsors; meeting with partners set for April

The Mesquite Public Arts Commission continued planning for its First Friday community events and discussed seeking sponsors and vendor coordination with partner organizations.
Judy, who chairs the First Friday planning group, said the commission needs city-manager and city-council approval for the event concept. The commission moved its proposed First Friday dates into fall (October–December) and spring (2026) and said it will coordinate vendor procurement and food trucks with local partners such as the Jimmy Hughes campus and Mesquite Arts.
The planning group scheduled a partner meeting for April 16 at 9 a.m. to refine advertising, logistics and sponsorship outreach. Commissioners noted open-meeting rules limit the number of commissioners who can attend subcommittee meetings; they agreed no more than three MPAC members will attend the April 16 partner meeting and arranged for an alternate commissioner to participate if a commissioner representing a partner organization needs to attend in a non-MPAC role.
Commissioners praised Judy’s outreach work and asked staff to continue coordinating sponsor lists and publicity once the group secures city approval for the event concept.
