Board approves resubmittal of $5.57 million congressional funding request for West Central Regional Water District

The Clay County Board of Commissioners voted April 1 to approve resubmitting a congressional directed funding application seeking $5,566,888 for the West Central Regional Water District project.

County staff said the request is a resubmittal through U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s office and represents about a 5% increase from a prior request the board had made. County staff described the application as part of staged funding for rural water infrastructure that would serve Vining, Feldman, Craigness, Flowing Keene, Cromwell and the cities of Euclid and Halstad (spelled in the transcript with variations), with a minimum ask of roughly $3.3 million and an overall project target of about $6 million.

Administrator Steve said the county signed and submitted the resubmittal before the published deadline and sought board ratification of that submission; he noted that the administrator had given staff authorization to submit because the resubmittal deadline had been the day before the board meeting. Commissioner Bair moved to approve resubmitting the congressional directed funding application for the West Central Regional Water District project; Commissioner Mogile seconded. The motion carried on a voice vote.

County staff said the application had been submitted the previous day to meet the deadline and thanked staff for timely action. The board did not discuss matching requirements or local funding specifics during the meeting; staff said some staging and local/state funding strategy discussions are ongoing.
