The Mesquite Public Arts Commission confirmed on March 17 that it submitted a budget request to the city for small promotional expenses to support upcoming fundraising and First Friday events.
The commission said the request includes $450 for brochures and posters and $250 for local advertising. Commissioners noted they did not repeat a prior request for banner funding because they still have banners from a previous purchase. Esteban and a commissioner said the city typically notifies departments in late April about budget approvals.
Commissioners discussed that any spending from MPAC’s trust account will still require city council approval at a regular council meeting even if donations are collected locally or via a partner nonprofit. Esteban described two mechanisms for holding donations: MPAC’s trust account (which requires council authorization for spending) and a local nonprofit that can accept donations more quickly.
