Eagle Scout seeks city help to complete $50,000 outdoor stage at Burry Park

Natalie Traver, a Hartsville resident working on an Eagle Scout project, told the city council on March 11 that construction of a community outdoor stage in Burry Park is nearing the permit and fundraising milestones but still needs city assistance to finish.
Traver said the project's most recent estimated cost is $50,000. "At this point, between all the services, materials, and monetary donations I've received, I've raised around $31,000. And I still need to raise around 19,000," she told the council, and described commitments of donated materials and price reductions from contractors. She said construction is aimed to begin at the end of the month, with foundation work starting and completion targeted in April.
Traver described outreach to corporations and civic groups, and listed meetings in progress with Carolina Pines, Duke Energy and CareSouth. She said she was also planning outreach on social media and in the Hartsville marketplace to raise awareness and donations.
The mayor and council congratulated Traver on the fundraising and tenacity; the mayor said the city would "consider your request to see what city can do to help you out a little bit and get you across the finish line." No specific city funding commitment was made at the March 11 meeting; the council said staff would review possibilities.
