County says third-party sites are reposting detention-center booking data; county not responsible for Facebook page

San Juan County officials told the commission that booking photos and detainee information posted on a widely viewed Facebook page and on a third-party website are republished from the county’s Adult Detention Center public records feed, but the county does not operate or control those external pages.

An ADC staff member explained the county’s position: “It is not. We have nothing to do with that Facebook page. The only and true, location that information is officially posted is by the ADC on that web page, and nowhere else.” The staff member said the county’s ADC web page provides searchable booking information and that the third-party pages are scraping that public feed.

The staff member described community responses: former detainees and others have requested removal of photos from the third-party pages. County staff said they have added a disclaimer on the official ADC page noting the county does not control reposts by external sites; the staff member named publicjailrecords.com as a likely republishing site based on their review.

The commission heard the clarification during department reports; commissioners asked whether problems had arisen from the reposting. Staff said they had received requests for photo removal and inquiries from local legal offices but reported no ongoing legal action at the time of the meeting.
