The Board of Estimate and Contract approved an ordinance March 4 ratifying the contract between the city of Mount Vernon and the Uniformed Firefighters Association, Local 107 (IAFF).
Board members reviewed the memorandum of understanding and confirmed that the ordinance adopts the agreement’s full terms, not just the salary table shown in the agenda. The board discussed percentage increases for firefighters and additions to the clothing allowance. The agreement language discussed at the meeting lists percentage increases (notated in the contract as “4”) for firefighters, a clothing allowance beginning at $175 that the board described as contributing to roughly a $24,000 net increase for the current year, and an annual lump sum component noted as “$75 times the number of officers” in later years.
Council members said they are in early conversations with other municipal unions to align contract years so future bargaining can proceed on the same schedule. The ordinance will affect payroll beginning in the 2026–2027 budget years as described in the memorandum.
Roll call on the ordinance was unanimous: Comptroller Morton, Council President Brown and Mayor Patterson Howard voted “aye.”
