Mount Vernon IDA delays MWBE information session; Con Ed and state development agency expected to participate

Mount Vernon IDA staff said an information session for New York State–registered construction trades that was scheduled for February will be rescheduled to early April because of low enrollment.
Robin Mack, the agency’s director of business development, told the board the session is intended for general contractors, electricians and plumbers and is designed to help the IDA meet a goal of 30% participation by minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBE) and 6% participation by service-disabled veteran-owned businesses in development projects in Mount Vernon.
Mack said confirmed participants so far include Con Ed (noted as the Con Ed geothermal energy network project in Mount Vernon), a New York State “Empire Development Corp” representative to discuss MWBE certification, the city’s Buildings and Public Works departments to explain permit submissions through OpenGov, and a possible MTA representative because the authority has expressed interest in city projects. Mack said she will invite recently active developers, including the team at 115 McPherson Parkway, and will report back to the board with a firm date. Members had no substantive objections and heard that the session also would be open to developers and would cover how contractors register as city vendors.
Mack also told the board she has been distributing information on a federal disaster loan opportunity (economic injury loans connected to storm events in July 2024) to businesses and nonprofits; she said the application deadline had been extended and that she was notifying both business and homeowner audiences as appropriate.
The board took no formal vote on the session date; staff will update members when the new date is set.
