Drug Free Vigo County coordinating council seeks appropriation of 2024 interdiction fees

Brandon Hallick, chief operating officer for Chances and Services for Youth and treasurer for Drug Free Vigo County, asked the council on April 1 to appropriate drug-interdiction fees collected in 2024.
Hallick explained the fee program: judges levy drug-interdiction fees in cases, a portion is collected locally, and 75% of the collected amount stays in the county to be administered by the local coordinating council; 25% is remitted to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute for statewide programming. He said he waits until funds are collected and verified with the auditor before seeking appropriation.
Hallick said the state fiscal year for the program runs April 1 to March 30, while the calendar collection year is Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, and that he planned to submit claims after the council approves the appropriation. He said the program funds treatment, prevention and law-enforcement-related activities through grant-driven formulas administered by the local coalition.
No formal appropriation was recorded at the meeting; Hallick said he would return with claims and a recommended allocation after the council provides appropriation authority.
