Crossroads Care Clinic seeks $20,000 from Vigo County for outreach and mobile unit support

Joanie (Joni) Wise, administrator of the Vigo County Health Department, and Sharon Carey, director of Crossroads Care Clinic (CCC), asked the council on April 1 to consider a $20,000 appropriation to support clinic promotional and outreach work.
Joanie Wise said local health finance reviewers had praised the county's fiscal position and introduced the request as a way to increase access to services that CCC provides. Sharon Carey told councilors the nonprofit has operated since 1988, has 11 paid staff and 48 volunteers, and provides mostly free services; she said last year the clinic served more than 2,000 clients.
Carey described planned uses for $20,000 as new exterior signage following a recent name change, a vehicle/mobile unit wrap, brochures and website improvements to expand awareness. Carey said most clients find the clinic by word of mouth or online search and that the clinic collaborates with Union Health and a HRSA-funded Health Start grant for maternal-child services.
Councilors asked whether services are limited to income-qualified residents; Carey replied that anyone may use the clinic’s services. The CCC's street address in the Ellis Building is 530 Wabash Avenue, bottom floor, and the clinic also operates a mobile unit to reach people who cannot get to the physical location.
No formal appropriation vote was recorded at the meeting; councilors indicated support and asked clarifying questions about promotional plans and funding sources.
