Board adopts revised 2025–26 school fee schedules; district will clarify Chromebook replacement and ticketing details

The Granite School District Board of Education voted April 1 to adopt the district’s 2025–26 maximum school fee schedules after staff presented revisions and the board discussed several key items, including instrument rental rates, overnight travel costs, Chromebook replacement charges and gate/admission practices for athletic events.

Craig Stauffer, district staff leading the fee update, said changes included raising the maximum instrument rental fee (district maximum set at $150 for the primary instrument and $25 for a secondary instrument) and reorganizing performing groups so families see one clear charge. Staff removed duplicate line items that had caused confusion and confirmed that class fees are maximums; schools may charge less.

Board members spent the longest portion of discussion on admission and activities funding. State law changes eliminated a previous district general fee; trustees debated how to replace about $1.7 million in lost revenue. Staff told the board that the district could allocate funds centrally to cover the lost registration revenue so students would not be charged for home events, or schools could set season activity passes. The board directed staff to develop communications and options; the adopted fee schedule does not mandate identical admission practices at each high school.

On Chromebook replacement, staff said fee amounts listed on the schedule are maximum replacement charges and agreed to add language and a depreciation scale to allow prorated replacement costs for older devices; the board asked staff to add the word "maximum" and distribute a depreciation table to bookkeepers and principals.

The board approved the fee schedules as amended (language clarifying maximums and depreciation to be added) on second and final reading.
