Juneteenth volunteers plan resource fair; fireworks penciled in pending sponsorships

"The Juneteenth volunteers met last Tuesday, and the sponsorship letters went out today," said Miss Trichester, a Juneteenth volunteer and liaison between the committee and administration.
Volunteers described the resource fair as a pre‑fireworks event that organizers hope to host in the middle school gym. "We're hoping to host a...resource fair; I'm in talks with the Chase and Fifth Third Bank and...other organizations to have those people attend," Trichester said. Committee members said Chase would provide a financial literacy segment if agreements are finalized.
On the fireworks, organizers said RC Pyrotechnics has "penciled us in, pending the status of sponsorships and funding," a point Trichester relayed from an email by Miss Clear. Committee members said they plan the fireworks the night before a parade and festival day; exact times remain to be set based on vendor availability.
Council members and volunteers discussed parade routing and logistics. Chief Cheney has been informally involved in route discussions because road repairs on Galbraith Road could require changes to the parade course. Organizers said they are preparing a plan A and plan B in case construction schedules affect staging.
Committee members also said the Juneteenth committee will meet again before the CCDR (recreation) committee meeting on April 14 to refine details and said they will provide an updated timeline, sponsor confirmations and a schedule for volunteer duties. Miss Duxton suggested organizers survey residents and parents to identify which resources the community most needs at the fair.
Next steps listed by volunteers and council members included finalizing sponsorship agreements, confirming the fireworks contract if funding is secured, setting event times and route details with Chief Cheney and the recreation commission, and using upcoming community events to promote registration and volunteer recruitment.
