Holiday Bowl owner outlines center’s community role, upcoming 35-team tournament

Tom Efremidis, owner of Holiday Bowl in Struthers, told the council that he has run the center for 37 years and described the facility’s leagues, hours, pro shop services and an upcoming tournament.

Efremidis said Holiday Bowl hosts men’s, women’s and mixed leagues, a junior program and that the Youngstown State University women’s team practices there under coach Doug Kabirsky. “I’m the owner of Holiday Bowl for the last 37 years,” Efremidis said. “I think we have the best scoring conditions here which along with the best bowlers around.”

The owner outlined public-lane availability during league nights: he said Wednesdays are fully booked for team practice starting about 6 a.m.; Tuesdays typically leave about four lanes open to the public; Thursdays about two lanes; and on Fridays “we have half the house… so the other half is available,” Efremidis said. He described a pro shop operated by JJ Hanna that sells and services bowling balls and accessories and noted that Hanna has been with the center “almost 30 years.”

Efremidis described an annual event the center calls the “Super Bowl blowout.” “This year we have 35 teams coming and that is gonna be this Saturday from, from what, 10:00, and they'll finish up right around 05:00,” he said. He also described the center’s snack offerings and short-order food during events.
