Struthers Ace Hardware manager outlines services, local delivery and Ace Rewards at Struthers City Council meeting

Melvin Tenney, general manager of Struthers Ace Hardware, told the Struthers City Council during the meeting's public comment period that the store provides a range of specialty services, free local delivery and a customer rewards program.

Tenney said the Struthers location opened in February 2019 and that he has worked at that store for about three months after five years at a Handyman Supply location in Niles. He listed in-store services such as key cutting, pipe threading, pool water testing and paint matching and said the store carries major tool and paint brands.

"We personally care about your projects, and we want you to get it in the most affordable way and the most helpful way," Tenney said. He added a store associate named Jay recently helped a customer repair an antique item so she could keep it.

Tenney described the store's customer loyalty program and promotional mailings. He said customers who enroll in the Ace Rewards program receive periodic coupons and other discounts, and he noted mailed coupons that he referenced as "$5.10, $15 off." Tenney also said the store offers free delivery "I think right now it's set at 15 miles."

Tenney framed those services as part of the store's role in a small community: "Communities, they pull together for those small businesses. I live in a small community, so I know exactly what it's like here," he said.

The comment was delivered as part of public comment and did not include any formal request for council action or mention of pending permits, contracts or regulations affecting the store. No council motions or votes were recorded in connection with Tenney's remarks.
