Commission hears road crew updates and flags inconsistent Webster Road signage with state

County road staff updated the commission on maintenance plans, chip seal ordering and localized repairs, and asked the commission to press the state to correct a misplaced road sign on Webster Road/Highway 7.
Road supervisors said hauling resumed after weather delays and that chip-and-seal work will begin as conditions allow. They described a recurring problem: a state sign labeled Highway 322 has been lying in a ditch for years and maps disagree about whether the corridor is Highway 322, Highway 101, or Webster Road. County staff noted Montana Cadastral and 9-1-1 records identify the corridor as Webster Road; third-party mapping products (Onyx, Google) sometimes show the highway number instead.
The commission agreed to raise the sign discrepancy and wayfinding (adding a Webster sign below a state-placed 322 sign) when they meet with state DOT representatives in Miles City. Commissioners and road staff also discussed culvert clearing, shoulder repair and a stop sign that had been knocked over; staff said anything in the state right-of-way is the state’s responsibility but noted they will coordinate to place county signage where appropriate.
Why it matters: inconsistent official naming and missing signs have created confusion for emergency services and the public; county staff said the difference between cadastral records and state signage has complicated locating addresses and responding to calls. Commissioners authorized staff to pursue the issue with MDT at an upcoming interagency meeting.
