The recommended purchase is a compatible Trimble R980 receiver and TSC5 data collector to maintain data compatibility with existing total‑station and contractor systems. Seiler Geospatial was the lone Midwest Trimble dealer that provided a quote; staff said compatibility and vendor support factored into the selection.
Board members asked about selling the old unit, rental costs and whether funding could be shifted within the internal service fund. Staff said the unit would be advertised for resale and that the 701 internal service fund would be used, advancing a scheduled replacement and postponing another 2025 vehicle replacement to cover the cost.
The board approved the purchase after an amendment to make the approval contingent on city‑attorney review.
