The Planning Commission voted unanimously to accept the City of Reno’s 2024 annual report to the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency and to forward the document to TMRPA.
“Members of the Commission, for the record, Lauren Knox, senior planner,” Knox said in her presentation, explaining that the annual report is required by the Nevada Revised Statutes and the Truckee Meadows Regional Plan and that it summarizes regional planning work completed in calendar year 2024.
Why it matters: The annual report gives TMRPA standardized data and documentation so the regional planning agency can monitor consistency with regional policies and update regional forecasts. Knox highlighted several 2024 accomplishments in the report: a regional plan update, an adoption of a major development code cleanup, completion of an annexation and nearly 200 planning and engineering case processes, and a targeted sphere‑of‑influence review that removed roughly 5,800 acres of federal land from Reno’s 20‑year sphere.
Knox said city staff coordinated with Team RPA on population and housing forecasts, provided capital projects and GIS facility data for the regional public infrastructure plan, and participated in the natural resources and regional transportation plan updates. She also noted ongoing 2025 work items including implementation of the development code cleanup, a housing needs assessment update and review of 2025 legislative proposals that may affect planning.
Planning Commission discussion was brief; no members requested public comment on the item. Commissioner Jackman moved to accept the 2024 annual report and forward it to TMRPA; Commissioner Jackman seconded the motion. The commission approved the motion by voice vote.
What’s next: With the commission’s recommendation, staff will forward the report to the Truckee Meadows Regional Planning Agency as required by statute.
