Tooele County awards crash-data contract to Wall Consultant Group using federal grant funds

Tooele County commissioners approved a contract with Wall Consultant Group to perform an in-depth review of fatal and serious crash data within the county, the council confirmed at its April 1 meeting.
Nathan Harris, assistant county attorney, said the county opened the project for public solicitation, received three bids and selected Wall Consultant Group. Harris told the council the total federal grant supporting the contract is $181,600 and the county’s match is $45,400; he said the county’s share is already included in Community Development’s grant match fund.
Council members asked whether the review would cover county roads broadly. Councilman Thomas asked, "Is this like all roads within the county?" Harris replied that his understanding was that the study would be comprehensive and would include interstate corridors such as I‑80 as well as other corridors and areas such as Skull Valley.
Harris also addressed the source of funds, noting recent confirmation that the federal funds were available for the contract despite earlier concerns. The contract award and associated budget match were moved, seconded and adopted by the council; the motion passed with vocal assent.
The county did not provide a line-item breakdown of how the consultant will allocate the grant across tasks in the meeting presentation. Community Development will oversee the contract and the report is intended to provide data to inform future road-safety decisions.
