Council approves easements for South Locust Street improvement project

The Grand Island City Council on March 11 approved resolutions to acquire permanent easements and right-of-way needed for the South Locust Street improvement project, covering the corridor from Farmer Park Road to Second Street.
Public Works Director Keith Kurtz described the request as permanent easements and right-of-way needed for the South Locust Street improvement project, project number 2021-P-6. Property owners listed in the staff materials included Ramos, Wirtz, Burst, Central Nebraska Federal Credit Union and Rosenbach.
The council opened the public hearing on the easement acquisition, received no public comment and closed the hearing. Council Member Stout moved to approve the resolution; Council Member Sheard seconded. The roll call was unanimous in favor and the motion adopted.
Staff did not report any spoken opposition during the hearing. With the resolution adopted, city staff may proceed with acquiring the named easements for the street-improvement project.
