Trustees said prior sales of similar parcels on Canal Street informed earlier valuations, but board members agreed to obtain fresh appraisals so potential buyers have an equal opportunity and to ensure the village receives current market values. The appraisal cost was estimated in the discussion at about $500 per parcel. One trustee argued that if the village expects residents or businesses to pay for appraisals when purchasing property, the village should pay for appraisals on its own parcels as well.
A motion to authorize the appraisal expenditure was moved and seconded and carried. The board voted to table further discussion about sale price and lot-monies until the appraisals are returned.
The board also discussed ensuring any path and adjustments meet ADA standards and returning to the agenda after the appraisals are complete.
